Jesús
Sierra comes from Spain, but has been living in Britain for three years.
"I
started working with wood ten years ago when I met a master woodcarver
and gilder in his 80's and became his apprentice/student. He taught me
the very old fashioned way of wood carving, sculpting, gilding and
restoring furniture over a period of four and a half years.
About
eight years ago I got very interested in popular arts and crafts when I
met one of the very last spoonmakers in the Spanish Pyrenees (he was 86
at the time) and I haven't stopped since.
Later
on I developed my own techniques for woodcarving, using both traditional
(sometimes ancient) and modern tools".
